Remote Design

This project was completed entirely remotely using email and a few phonecalls. Katy would regularly send me images of her existing room and magazing cuttings detailing what she liked about them and the design grew from there. It looks completely different to how we started!

Traditional Design

Katy contacted me about creating this dresser in February 2019, however, as we wanted to use a particular cabinetmaker for his style and experience with Chalon, we couldn't start making this project until the summer. However, this gave us plenty of designing time to create her the perfect dresser which fits perfectly in her home.

Taking inspiration from the light and airy room it was to finally live in, the other furniture and architectual features, we have created a piece that fits perfectly like a family, yet without looking too same-y or contrived.

Skirting Details

Originally, we were looking at a straight skirting, however, this would have looked too heavy in the room as all the other furniture has legs. We also played around with the level of detail on the dresser too, from heavy beading and fluting, right through to plain shaker. Proportion played an important part of this unit to create a sense of calmness that is hard to put your finger on.

The Final Touches

Because this was a display cabinet, we put T&G back panelling, grooved shelves, traditional shelf supports and a delicate lock. All the hardware was brass to match with her home and it was polished inside to match her dining room table. The outside was finished with a bespoke Silver Grey finish which has a gentle smoked patina to make it look delicately aged.

A similar unit would cost around £4000
