Mr and Mrs O’Keefe made some drastic alterations to their home, knocking most of the internal walls out and creating an extension into the garden. In doing so, they created a beautiful open plan eating, dining, sitting and study space for them to enjoy with their two young boys. With a minimalist colour pallet, they have created a modern home that feels almost holiday-like with the light flooding in from the skylights and the limed engineered oak floor.
From knocking down supporting walls, there were several pillars that needed designing around. The most obvious was the large peninsular that frames the kitchen from the sitting room and provides a small breakfast bar. Curved base cupboards rounds off the end to provide a soft edge to the kitchen.
The second pillar was inside the larder next to the American fridge freezer. Mrs O’Keefe wanted internal drawers but due to the reduced depth caused by the pillar, we created two larders of which one had the desired drawers.
They used Corian as their worktop with a stainless steel sink and narrow up-stands for a more modern look. Over the fridge, we created a wine rack and bookshelf for her cookery books and ornaments.
There is a large glass backsplash along the back of the kitchen to create a pop of colour in the otherwise clean white room. This green has been echoed in the cushions and art work around the room to link the rooms together. The utility was made with the same doors to tie the rooms together and the window sill was covered in the same green glass.
