The Unsual Kitchen Island

matt green kitchen, bamboo worktop, unusual kitchen island

The Project

Developers, Impellor of Exeter, were looking for a kitchen made with the same attention to detail as they were putting into their bespoke million pound house. The dramatic sloped ceiling, sweeping from a towering 3.7m to 2.8m over a five-meter width warranted an equally dramatic kitchen.

Sloping Ceiling

To make the most of the ceiling height, we used extra high larders surrounding the American Fridge/Freezer, and used up-lighting to emphasise the height above. The units then sweep down to base cupboards on the opposite wall to echo the height change.

Storage

Reduced depth base cupboards along the wall provide storage without overwhelming the open plan space. To keep clean lines running through the kitchen we used handle-less doors and internal drawers to provide practical storage for cutlery and utensils.

Curved Island

The sweeping shape of the island adds drama and flow to the kitchen, emphasised by the pendant lights hung to reflect its shape. The island contains a wide induction hob with downdraft extractor which is stored flush with the worktop, only to rise up during use. There is also a small under-counter fridge opposite a large under-counter wine cooler from CDA. They have a co-ordinating oven, combination oven and deep warming drawer which is perfect for keeping food warm, slow cooking or proving dough.

Kitchen Colours & Materials

Impeller decided on an olive coloured door, finished with a Mirror Lux White Quartz Worktop and a contrasting Bamboo Island.

A similar kitchen would cost £20-25K
