The Property

This beautiful Grade 1* Listed Houses is one of my favourite projects. Hayley wanted to restore the old kitchen which over the generations, had become the sitting room. It had so many beautiful period features such as the beautiful quarried stone floor and deep windows with their original shutters.

Protecting the Building

Hayley had no idea what she wanted, other than an image of an old Chalon Showroom that she had kept for over ten years! Together, we discussed how she liked to use the kitchen, and from there we developed this beautiful kitchen to fit her needs. To protect the history of the room, we allowed plenty of ventilation around the backs of the cupboards and using as few fixings as possible. The wall cupboards are held by traditional French Cleats to spread the weight over a larger surface of the wall, yet using as few drilled fixings as possible.

Kitchen Colours

When it came to colour choice, she was initially overwhelmed, but I asked her to choose her favourite colour. The deep green worktable from the original image had stolen her heart and so we designed the colours to fit with this key piece. To keep the potentially dark room still feeling bright, we used marble effect quartz and oak tops, and lots of lighting. She finished the room with touches of copper on the La Canche range and the Perrin & Rowe tap.

A similar kitchen would cost around £40K
