B&B Country Kitchen

The Fire

In 2013 a fire devastated Mr and Mrs Allen’s thatched home, destroying all but the front wall of the house. Rather than moving on, they bravely decided to re-build their home. They used HBS Building Contractors from Taunton to run their build whilst they rented the house next door. After initial investigations, it was realised that the only surviving wall was too damaged to be repaired and so that was also pulled down. In its place they have built an amazing light filled home with B&B that looks as though it has stood the test of time as a working granary barn.

Catering for Guests

The house will soon be used as a B&B and so the kitchen needed to be beautiful as well as practical for catering for large numbers of people. An EverHot cooker was chosen but with half the top being an induction hob, it can be used all year round, even when the ovens are switched off. A French Canopy was built over it to house the extractor and overhead lighting. A bespoke corner cupboard was made to store trays as well as house a corner carousel.

Design Features

The island housed a fridge and combination oven for days when the EverHot will be turned off. The back of the island provides seating with a beautiful curved slatted base and turned legs.

The dishwasher was raised up as it will be filled several times a day and so they didn’t want to spend all day bending down on the floor unloading it.

Kitchen Larders

Two breakfront tall pull out larders flank an American Fridge/Freezer which is capped with a curved wine rack. Adjacent is another large larder with marble cold shelf, internal lights and spice racks to house all of the food needed to run their new business.

Working Utility Room

In the utility next door, one cupboard was made with an integrated plinth so that she could roll her industrial vacuum cleaner straight in without having to lift it up over the plinth. The second cupboard is used as a large linen cupboard as it is next to the washing machine and tumble dryer.
